Welcome to Paragraphs to Essays
Introduction:
Level 3 of the Just-Right Writing series will teach you how to decide what to write, how to expand your writing, and know when it's good enough to submit to an instructor or parent.
Writing essays may seem difficult, but when you know the plan, it's easy to brainstorm and organize your thoughts, construct a strong thesis, identify and develop your points, construct a good rough draft, revise and edit to improve your writing, give credit to your sources, and submit an assignment you can be proud of!
The Details:
The essay types we will explore are: the mini and basic essay, reasons & examples, compare & contrast, cause & effect, classification, and persuasive.
You will continue exploring the Writing Process, which helps you organize your thoughts for any kind of project. In addition, you will continue to choose the best purpose for your writing based on your audience, to choose good sources to support your points, and to give credit where credit is due!
The Writing Process is really more of a "thinking process."
Think back: the Writing Process starts with brainstorming and organizing your thoughts with graphic organizers and writing scaffolds. These take the mystery out of knowing how much you need to write.
You are also aware that the Six Traits (Development of Ideas, Organization, Style, Word Choice, Sentence Variety, Conventions) are what all good writers use. And remember, you will get feedback from your peers, your parents, and your instructor.
Conclusion:
We know writing is still a challenge for you, but you've come a long way and there's more to learn! As we've said, if you practice the material presented, we feel certain you will see that writing essays is not difficult, and if you can have a conversation, you CAN write!
